Jesus is The Light of The World

Light dispels darkness. In a dark room, if you flip on the light, it chases all the darkness away. Light illuminates a path and shows us where to go. Light is warm and inviting.

Similarly, Jesus is The Light. He chases all the darkness away and shows us what path to follow back to our Heavenly Father. Through Him, we can see truth and right and overcome darkness. We can feel His warmth when we feel His Light.

Satan is dark. He is cold. He lives in the shadows and encourages us to stay in the dark. The only way to combat Satan and his influence is to shine a light on him, to literally fill ourselves with the Light of Jesus Christ.

“I am the light of the world: he that followeth me shall not walk in darkness, but shall have the light of life.”
— John 8:12

In a world where there is so much confusion, darkness, evil, and corruption, the Light of Jesus Christ is our beacon. His light does not fade. It does not flicker. It shines bright for all who choose to see it and follow it. His Light offers us peace, joy, and comfort.

He Shows Us the Way

“For behold, the Spirit of Christ is given to every man, that he may know good from evil.”
— Moroni 7:16

Jesus shows us how to live. His words in the holy scriptures and given through His servants teach us how to find peace, joy, and happiness in mortality. Because of His Light, each person has the opportunity to know right from wrong. We all have the chance to find our way back to Heavenly Father through Jesus Christ.

President Thomas S. Monson taught:

“The light of Christ is that influence for good which is given to every man and woman… As we follow the light, we will never be led astray.”

When we are living the gospel and trying our best to keep the commandments, we are walking in His Light. When we choose to follow Him, we are walking in His Light. When we serve, help, and love one another, we are walking in His light. As we do these things, we will be led to Heavenly Father.

His Light fills us with love and goodness.

His Light Brings Hope

“No matter how dark the night, the morning always comes. Through the Atonement of Jesus Christ, the Light will return to your life.” Jeffrey R. Holland

Without hope, we have nothing. Hope is what brings us through the sadness, heartbreak, and darkness. Hope gives us reason to keep moving forward and keep living our lives even when life feels overwhelming and impossibly hard.

His Light brings us that hope. His Light can and will return to us as we seek it, even in the darkest times of our lives. As we turn to Him and turn our lives over to Him, we will experience His transforming and miraculous Light. We will feel hope. We will feel that things will get better.

Because Jesus overcame death, despair, sadness, sorrow, and pain we can too. He paid the ultimate sacrifice for us and took upon Himself all of these things so that we could find help, relief, and healing through Him.

His Light Changes Us

As we fill our lives with His Light, we change. We become new creatures. When we are filled with His Light we are filled with His love, His patience, His kindness, His compassion. The more we seek His Light, the more we are becoming like Him.

President Russell M. Nelson taught:

“As we let God prevail in our lives, the light of Jesus Christ grows brighter within us, and we become a light to others.”

As we let Jesus prevail and make Him the focus of our lives, His Light shines through us. We will have His Light in our countenances. We will be a beacon of His Light and invite others to seek and partake of it as well.

Have you met people who seem to be full of goodness and light? Have you seen the light in people’s eyes when you speak with them? The more we fill our lives with His Light the more we will shine and help others to feel the warmth and goodness of His love and Light.

How Can We Walk in His Light Today?

We walk in the Savior’s Light when we:

  • Pray daily
  • Study the scriptures
  • Repent quickly
  • Follow the prophet
  • Serve others
  • Listen to the Holy Ghost

Every small act of faith brings more of His Light into our lives. His Light will replace fear, sadness, darkness, and despair in our lives. While the Lord may not remove trials we are facing, His Light will help us face and endure the trials with strength. His Light in our lives will help us navigate the sometimes treacherous waters of mortality. The more of His Light that we seek to have in our lives, the better able we can be to withstand temptations and endure trials.

His Light will continue to grow within us as we remember Him every day and strive to keep His commandments the best that we can. A flicker can turn into a forest fire if we continually seek to let His Light grow.

Doctrine and Covenants 50:24
“That which is of God is light… and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.”
